Abubakari Wuni — Executive Director

Abubakari Wuni

Executive Director

Mr. Abubakari Wuni is the Executive Director of the BridgeCare Institute for Health Research, Ghana, where he provides strategic leadership with a deep commitment to advancing health outcomes through evidence-based research, innovation, and collaboration. He brings a wealth of experience from a diverse career in clinical nursing and education.

As a registered nurse, Mr. Wuni began his clinical practice at Tamale Teaching Hospital. His dedication to developing the next generation of caregivers led him to the Nurses and Midwives Training College, Tamale, where he served as a Senior Health Tutor and Head of the Research and Quality Assurance Unit. He later gained additional international clinical experience working at Cambridge University Hospitals in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Wuni holds a Diploma in Nursing from the Nurses and Midwives Training College, Tamale; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University for Development Studies, Tamale; and a Master of Science in Advanced Nursing Practice from the University of Cape Coast.

Currently, Mr. Wuni is pursuing a Ph.D. in Nursing at the University of Kentucky, USA. His research focuses on cancer prevention and survivorship, maternal and child health, and nursing education. He is an active scholar who has co-authored several publications in peer-reviewed journals, serves as a reviewer for international journals, and has presented his research at international conferences.

Iddrisu Mohammed Sisala — Director

Mr. Iddrisu Mohammed Sisala is a dedicated nursing professional and researcher based in Tamale, Ghana. He currently serves as the Director of the BridgeCare Institute for Health Research, providing strategic leadership to advance health outcomes through evidence-based research and collaboration.

Mr. Sisala is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. He holds a Master's degree in Advanced Nursing Practice from the University of Cape Coast and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University for Development Studies, Tamale. His research specialization is in women's health, with a primary focus on breast cancer.

His career began at the Tamale Teaching Hospital after obtaining his Diploma in Nursing. He has since transitioned to his alma mater, the Nurses' and Midwives' Training College in Tamale, where he teaches and serves as the Deputy Health Promotion Committee Chairperson.

His professional identity as a clinician, educator, and published scholar is unified by a commitment to enhancing healthcare through three pillars: delivering evidence-based care, shaping future nurses through mentorship, and producing research that confronts systemic barriers to a robust nursing workforce.

Mudasir Mohammed Ibrahim — Secretary

Secretary

Mudasir Mohammed Ibrahim is a dedicated Registered Nurse and independent health researcher based in Tamale, Ghana. He serves at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where he provides comprehensive patient care to ensure high-quality service delivery.

Beyond his clinical role, Mudasir is deeply engaged in public health research, with a focus on cancer and chronic disease epidemiology, maternal and child health, palliative care, nursing workplace issues, quality of care, and professional development.

His research aims to generate actionable insights that inform policy, strengthen health systems, and improve care for vulnerable populations. Mudasir has a strong interest in biostatistics and health informatics, using data to understand and address pressing healthcare challenges.

He also develops open-source R Shiny applications designed to streamline data analysis and research workflows for healthcare professionals and students. His long-term goal is to become a clinical and translational epidemiologist dedicated to turning data into actionable solutions that improve population health.

Brenda Abena Nyarko — Founding Member

Brenda Abena Nyarko

Founding Member

Brenda Abena Nyarko is a nurse researcher and PhD candidate at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, College of Nursing. Her research focuses on advancing patient safety and health system innovation through the integration of human factors engineering and technology.

She brings expertise in evidence-based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and clinical workflow. Brenda has authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed articles and serves as a reviewer for many nursing journals.

At Bridgecare, Brenda is particularly committed to promoting research that addresses the unique health challenges of Northern Ghana. She envisions using locally driven, evidence-based studies to inform equitable health policies, strengthen healthcare delivery, and improve community well-being across the region and beyond.
